The Management of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, has reacted to the trending case of an alleged harassment of a nurse in the Centre by her Head of Department, insisting that the matter is receiving adequate attention and that all necessary steps are being taken to address the matter holistically.

The Medical Director, Dr Titilola Sarah Ibiyemi, gave this assurance while receiving a delegation of the Ogun State Nursing and Midwifery officials who were on a fact-finding mission to the Centre.

A statement signed by institution’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Dr. Segun Orisajo quoted the Medical Director as saying that the matter was  being addressed strictly in line with the provisions of the Public Service Rules (PSR), stressing that there will be no attempt to conceal any aspect of the incident.

“Part of the established administrative procedures for handling such matters includes the issuance of a query and the setting up of an investigative panel.

“We have taken these steps and are awaiting the submission of the Panel’s findings, which will guide our next line of action.

“I wish to reiterate that we will follow this matter through to its logical conclusion,” the Medical Director assured.

Earlier, the Ogun State Chairman of the State Nursing and Midwifery Council (SNMC), Dr (Mrs) S.O. Aminu, described her committee as an unbiased umpire, noting that its mission was to ensure fairness and thoroughness in the handling of the case.

Speaking in the same vein, the Ogun State Chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Comrade Ajoke Bello, expressed regret that the incident involved two members of the association.

She pledged the association’s readiness to cooperate fully with the investigative panel to ensure a just and transparent outcome.
