The Hospital Management Committee approved the establishment of an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) Unit under the supervision of the Medical Director on the 12 th of July 2022, to strengthen the EMR implementation process and ensure its perfect adoption in the Centre. This unit is headed by Mr O.O Kehinde and supported by 18 other staff drawn from various departments including HIM, ICT, Accounts, Audit, Laboratory and Pharmacy among others. The Unit also has eight sub-unit for effective co-ordination of the unit.

The vision of the EMR Unit is to effectively provide quality and timely clinical services to patients and improve revenue generation at Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta.


Through the efficient application of Electronic Medical Records in the Centre, the EMR Unit shall reduce patient waiting time, ensure data quality and security and block all financial leakages.


• Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) has improved remarkably

• Patient waiting time is reduced

• Improved data quality (Patients confidentiality)

• Instant service centres have been established at the Lab., Radiology, Cardiology and Staff
clinic to cater for walk-in patients.

• EMR feedback and complaints WhatsApp platform have been created for prompt resolutions
of EMR issues.

• EMR Application Modules have been upgraded to accommodate users peculiarities

• An additional Server has been provided and upgraded for faster and more effective

• Server load balancing has been done to improve application run time

• EMR network coverage has been extended to 180-bedded and Ile-Alaanu buildings

• Security policies guidelines have been published to guide the usage of EMR in the

• Staff are being trained and re-trained regularly.

• Chromebooks and Laptops are being maintained, repaired or replaced promptly.

• A digital appointment system for patients is in the process

• SMS Consult request to doctors and other health workers is in the process.
