HEALTH MINISTER TO FLAG OFF FREE CANCER SCREENING AT FMC ABEOKUTA

The Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, is scheduled to flag off a one-day nationwide cancer awareness and free screening exercise in Abeokuta on Saturday, 7th February 2026.
Venue of the exercise is Telemedicine Hall, Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, and is expected to commence at 9:00 a.m.
The programme , which is being funded by the Federal Government, is designed to screen participants for three of the most common cancers in Nigeria — breast cancer, cervical (uterine cervix) cancer, and prostate cancer.
Following the Ogun State exercise, the programme is billed to be extended across the six geopolitical zones of the country.
Speaking , the Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, Dr. Titilola S. Ibiyemi, said the initiative is aimed at creating awareness about cancer and promoting early detection, which remains key to effective treatment and improved survival.
She therefore urged members of the public to take advantage of the opportunity provided by the free screening exercise by turning out in large numbers.
A statement by the instruction’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Dr Segun Orisajo has it that wife of the former President, Chief ( Mrs) Bola Obasanjo is the Mother of the Day while His Royal Majesty, The Alake & Paramount Ruler of Egbaland Oba ( Dr) Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo is the Royal Father of the Day.
The Chief host is the Chairman,FMCA Board of Management, Dr. Dayo Israel.
