BRIEF HISTORY OF NURSING DEPARTMENT

Nursing Services Department is involved in the performance of multiple tasks she collaborate with other units and departments within the hospital.

Provides prompt, efficient, timely and effective health care services to clients and patients in and outside Ogun State, it has various sections which include specialties, ward, investigative area and clinics which are headed by Deputy Directors.

The sections are further divided into various units and these are headed by Unit Heads who
are Assistant Director of Nursing /Deputy Director of Nursing.

NURSING AUDIT COMMITTEE

The committee is involved in continuous auditing of the nursing care rendered to patients in
ensuring sustainability of the established professional and ethical standards.

Targets are set
for nurses in each calendar year;

 To ensure compliance to guidelines and standard of practice

 To ensure good inter and intra personal working relationship among nurses and other health care givers.


 To assess and ensure the maintenance of complete and accurate working documents that support the work done in achieving nursing objectives in individual patients care plan


 To ensure reduction in risk management through critical incidental reporting, complaints and remedy for poor performance


 To evaluate proficiency of Nurse Professionals in health care delivery.

COUNSELING/DISCIPLINARY COMMITTEE


 The committee investigates any observed or reported cases of inadequacies and
negligence.
 The committee in collaboration with education unit gives erring nurse an educational
corrective measure in form of presentation at the forum/rapport on the relevant topics.

INFECTION PREVENTION AND CONTROL


 Ensure infection prevention in all ramifications
 Ensure staff, patients and relatives comply with standard precautions and correct use
of personal protective equipment (PPE)
 Ensure and promotes hand hygiene among staff, relatives and patients
 Gives health education and create awareness in pandemic as the case may be.

MORTALITY REVIEW COMMITTEE


 They review cases of preventable deaths
 Encourage nurses to ensure prompt attention to patients needs
 Charge nurses to be more assertive and be ready for emergencies at all times
 Overseeing death report writing.

RESEARCH COMMITTEE

The committee is tasked with the responsibility of conducting research for the department.
Completed study for this 2022 that ended was “Lived Experiences of Mother with or without
Post Dural puncture Headache And its Effect on Early Institution of Breastfeeding at Federal
Medical Centre, Abeokuta”.

With the objective to examine the lived experiences of mothers with or without post Dural
puncture headache and its effects on institution of breastfeeding. Qualitative study was
carried out on the topic, process of publication still on-going.

QUALITY ASSURANCE COMMITTEE

 The committee was set up to:
 Improve quality of care giving to patients and clients
 Ensure appropriate use and management of hospital equipment
 Boost health care assurance and guide against errors in the field of practice.
 Train, teach and correct in love errors committed in the field of practice.
 Ensure effective grooming of staff

 Assist nurses to identify clinical risk management, learn from mistakes and improve
on performances

NURSING SERVICE EDUCATION UNIT

 .Training and retraining of all personnel in the department
 Orientation of newly employed staff
 Training of student nurses from within and outside the country on clinical posting
 Organizing study day for different cadres of nursing staff
 Regular step down trainings
 Conducting practical examination for students nurses
 Organizing annual workshop for all cadres of staff in the department i.e. Nurses,
CHA’S, Health Attendants and Porters
