BRIEF HISTORY OF ORAL & MAXILLOFACIAL DEPARTMENT
History of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery/Pathology Department:
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery/Pathology Department was one of the Sub-Units under the then former Dental Services Department, now gained its existence as single department alongside other newly created departments with Management’s approval, taking effect from September, 2020.
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Department renders clinical services. Training and Researches.
Our clinical Services include:
- Attend to Patients presenting with Oral & Maxillofacial cases.
- Perform elective/emergency Surgeries
- Attend to Patients with Oral & Maxillofacial cases at ETR & Satellite Wards.
- The procedures include Major Surgeries under G.A inform of Oncological Surgery like Maxillectomies, Mandibulectomies, Parotidectomy, Surgical excision of major Salivary gland
Pathologies, Tumour Excision with the neck dissection, ORIF of Maxillofacial fractures, Repair
of congenital abnormalities like Oro-facial clefts, TMJ Surgeries. - Minor Oral Surgeries in the clinic under L.A which includes: Third molar surgeries, closed
reductions and immobilization of maxillofacial fractures with MMF, Incision and Excision
biopsy, Cyst nucleation and Marsupialization, Surgical exposures.
Other procedures are routine extraction splinting, I&D and decompression of Oro-facial infections.

Head of Department Profile (HOD)
Dr. Abiodun Taofeek Amoo
is a Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon who hailed from Abeokuta, Ogun State. He had his secondary school education at Ifako International Secondary School, Agege, Lagos, where he obtained his West African Examination Council (W.A.E.C) certificate. He later proceeded to the University of Lagos to study Dentistry/Dental Surgery and obtained a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (B.D.S.) degree from the Institution. Thereafter, he enrolled for residency programme at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (L.U.T.H) where he bagged his fellowship of the National Post Graduate Medical College of Nigeria.
He has passion for craniomaxillofacial surgeries especially cleft lip and palate and reconstructive maxillofacial surgeries. He has few publications in reputable journals at home and abroad.
Dr. Amoo is a sport person. Despite work schedules, he regularly makes-out-time to play football. He also
enjoys watching movies and travelling.
He is happily married with three (3) children.
