PHARMACISTS ARE INDISPENSABLE INTEGRAL PART OF MEDICINE- says Ag.MD

The Association of Hospital and Administrative Pharmacists of Nigeria (AHAPN), Federal Medical Centre Idi-Aba Abeokuta Chapter has joined the global world in the celebration of this year’s Pharmacists Day with the  theme Think Health, Think Pharmacists

The Acting Medical Director, Dr.A.S Adediran who described pharmacists as an indispensable integral part of medicine appreciated the hospital Pharmacists for  their dedication to delivering quality service to patients.

He  equally commended  them for their work in drug compounding, training, research, and cooperation with the management, urging  them to continue their good work as he  promised  the hospital management’s continued support to the department.

The Head of Pharmacy Department, Dr. Odunfa Oluwagbenga, who was also the keynote speaker, emphasized the importance of pharmacists in promoting health and preserving life.

He stated that Pharmacists take a crucial position in adding years to life and life to years, ensuring that health is promoted, preserved, and enjoyed to the fullest.

He encouraged students to consider pharmacy as a career and to take advantage of the new University of Medicine and Medical Sciences in Abeokuta to realize their dreams.

The event was well-attended by dignitaries, including the Royal Father of the day, Oba Prof. Saka Adelola Matemilola, Olowu of Owu Kingdom, represented by Akingbogun of Owu Kingdom, Prof. Maruf Olanrewaju Adenekan.

Prof. Olanrewaju Adenekan commended the Pharmacists, emphasizing that their importance is not negotiable, and encouraged them to continue being diligent in their work.

Other attendees included the Patron of the association, Chief Abayomi Gbadamosi; the Mother of the day, Chief Mrs. Alice Modupeola Williams; and members of the Hospital Management Committee, such as Director of Administration Dr. E.K  Apanisile, Head of Information and Public Relations, Dr. Segun Orisajo, and Secretary to the HMC, Mrs. Rebecca Abakpa.

Also in attendance were professional colleagues from State Hospital, Ijaiye, students from different government and public secondary schools, members of staff, and pharmacists at the Centre.

During the event, a book titled “Clinical Compass: Navigating Patient Safety with Pharmacy Intervention” written by Dr. Odunfa was launched for academic and research purposes

The celebration included various presentations highlighting the importance of Pharmacists in ensuring quality health for everyone in society. 

The event culminated in debates from schools, award presentations, cultural displays, and cake cutting.
