WORLD PUBLIC RELATIONS DAY: FMC ABEOKUTA PR DEPARTMENT GIFTS CHILDREN
Saturday, 19th July 2025.
The Information and Public Relations Department of the Federal Medical Centre Idi-Aba Abeokuta has joined the rest of the global Public Relations and communications community in this year’s celebration with presentation of gift items to some children.
The beneficiaries were those at the Children’s Emergency Rooms(CHER) Children’s Ward, Neonatal Ward and the Post natal ward.
In line with this year’s theme “Building Bridges and Navigating Polarization” the department used the occasion to build bridges across misinformation and misconceptions about the PR practice in an hospital environment on one hand and pervasive ignorance among some patients / clients about the operational mechanism of the Centre, on the other hand.
The Head Info & PR department, Dr.Segun Orisajo who led his staff on the exercise emphasized the need to ” foster mutual understanding, unite people across divides and utilize the instruments of communication to achieve mutually beneficial goals”
He recalled series of deliberate activities of the department which included a Public Lecture it organized last year on the theme, ” Towards a Sustainable Corporate Image and Reputation” which he noted was aimed at scaling up the narratives of the Centre in all ramifications of its services.
He pledged the preparedness of his department to complement the vision of the present Chairman, Board of Hospital Management, Dr. Dayo Israel to take the Centre to the enviable status of a world class health institution.
At the Post natal ward, Dr.Taofeek Ogunfunmilayo, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist who received the team appreciated the department for its kind gesture to the new born babies and their parents.
The Head of Nursing Department, Mrs. A.G Fagoyinbo, represented by Mrs. Sowole H.O., Deputy Director of Nursing commended the department for its giant strides towards shaping the corporate image of the Centre through its numerous professional activities.
The team was received at the Children Emergency Room (CHER) by the Chief Nursing Officer, Mrs. Nzereu Comfort while Mrs Oguntuyo was on hand to receive the team at Labour and Post-natal Ward.
At the Children’s Ward, Head of the Nursing Pediatrics Unit, Mrs.O. Adekunle on behalf of the Head of Nursing Services Department, offered prayers and expressed appreciation for the visit and donations.
At all the wards visited , the team was warmly received by Parents, Nurses, and Patients who appreciated the department’s arms of fellowship to the beneficiaries as it brought smiles to the faces of the children and fostered a renewed sense of connection between the hospital and its community.
The event served as a reminder that public relations transcend publicity but about genuine care for people, empathy and the building of trust.
The donated items were detergents and plastic buckets.
