MEDICAL DIRECTOR PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR PSYCHO-ONCOLOGY SOCIETY OF NIGERIA.

The Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre Idi- Aba Abeokuta, Professor Adewale Musa- Olomu has pledged his full support  to the Psycho – Oncology  Society of Nigeria, Ogun State Branch. He gave the assurance while granting audience to the leadership of the society in his office.

The Chairman of the Society, Dr. Erinoso Abayomi, said the visit was to introduce the newly elected executives to the Hospital Management Committee and to also appreciate the Medical Director for all round development of the Centre.

Dr. Abayomi particularly commended the Medical Director for his doggedness at making the Centre measure up with international standard. He stressed the importance of Psycho-Oncology Society, describing members as professionals who helped manage physical, psychological, social and behavioral challenges of cancer patients.

According to the Chairman, the Society is all encompassing as it involves different hands from different specialties for the treatment of cancer patients. To this end, Dr. Abayomi solicited the support of the Management for full establishment of the Society in terms of infrastructures and financial support.

The Vice-President and President elect of the international psycho-oncology society Professor Chioma Azuzu  buttressed  the chairman’s request, while emphasizing that the request if granted, will aid the treatment of cancer patients in the hospital.

Responding, Prof . Musa- Olomu described the visit as apt , explaining  that the cancer treatment in the Centre will soon get approval while promising to incorporate their request in the budget.

The Medical Director called for awareness of the general public on causes of cancer prevention, early detections and involvement of non governmental organization (NGO) to generate funds for patients that are undergoing treatment of the disease.
